Import and exportAdminsAdmins only

Admins find Settings → Import & export; the import dialog behind the top bar's "Import" button links there too, under "Import a zip file". It moves recipes between two Rezepte instances; it is not a backup — see Data and backup for that. To take a single recipe from a website or from copied text, see Importing a recipe.

Export

Tick the recipes to pass on — search and sort help with long lists, and "Tick all shown" ticks whatever the search leaves — and choose Export .zip. The line under the list estimates the file's size; the estimate runs a little high. The button first says "Preparing…" while the file is put together, then shows the download's progress.

The file holds one folder per recipe with its text and photos. It does not carry who wrote a recipe, favorites, tasty marks or public links.

Import

Choose or drop a .zip exported from Rezepte. The recipes in it are listed before anything is sent, on a slip headed with the file's name.

A recipe whose title already exists here is marked already here and left unticked; tick it to import it anyway, as a second recipe — the arrow beside it opens the one you have, to compare. Each recipe is imported on its own and shows its progress; if one fails, the ones before it stay, its reason appears under its title, and Import remaining carries on after you have looked at it.

You become the author of every recipe you import.

When a file is refused

• This file is not a zip, No Rezepte recipes in this file or Not a Rezepte export — the file, or that recipe in it, is not an export from Rezepte.
• Made by a newer Rezepte — the recipe comes from a newer version of Rezepte than this one. Update this instance first.
• Unsupported format version or recipe.json cannot be read — the recipe's file was changed or damaged after the export.
• A photo that cannot be read fails that recipe's import; nothing of that recipe is kept.

Limits

• An export holds at most 500 recipes, and an import file may be at most 1 GiB.
• A recipe brings at most 20 photos of at most 10 MiB each.
• Photos are the largest size Rezepte keeps (2400 px on the long side) and are prepared again on import, so a photo passed back and forth loses a little quality each time.
• Recipes are matched by title only: two different recipes with the same name are both marked already here.
